FunnyWomen logoHumour is a valuable form of self expression that women can develop.  Funny Women helps women to explore their funny side to build self confidence, improve relationships and enhance communications.

Over the last seven years, over 1,000 women have found their comic voice through Funny Women’s workshops and live events.  Funny Women have now taken what they’ve learned along the way and created Funny Women in Business ‘Stand Up to Stand Out’ workshops and business events.

With more women compelled to make speeches at social events and professional women increasingly sharing their experiences on public and media platforms, confidence and communication skills are essential for achieving personal and professional success.

During this evening, a range of exciting and interactive techniques are introduced to help with:

  • presenting and delivering your message in a personal and compelling style

  • developing ‘material’

  • overcoming nerves and increasing self confidence

Lynne Parker, founder of Funny Women developed Funny Women in Business to offer training and coaching for women based on stand up comedy techniques to improve self confidence and presentation skills in their professional lives.

“I have seen how much stand up helps women to become more assertive and confident in their every day lives.  We have been running comedy workshops for women alongside the Funny Women Awards for the last two years and our business programme is an extension of this activity.”

LynneParkerOriginally trained as a journalist Lynne spent the first years of her career working in women’s magazines for publishing groups Nat Mags and IPC writing about fashion and beauty topics.  She eventually left the publishing world for a career in marketing and public relations working for a range of leading consumer and entertainment brands.

“Funny Women grew out of a creative idea for a client,” explains Lynne.  ‘But I decided that this was one idea I had to keep for myself.  I’m now the proud owner of one of the UK’s leading comedy brands.”

The first Funny Women event took place in 2002 and since then Lynne has produced seven Funny Women Awards, six major charity events, six successful runs of Funny Women at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe, and toured Funny Women Live around the UK.  Funny Women has also raised in excess of £100K for charity under the banner of ‘laughing about life to help and heal women’.

Lynne is a member of the Certified Institute of Public Relations and was the president of Women in PR from 2001-2003.

Lynne regularly appears on television and radio, writes and comments in national newspapers and is working on a book based on her experiences of working in comedy with Funny Women.

What previous attendees have said

The tools and insights you used were inspirational and left everyone in the room with a huge smile on their face and a different view on how they can use their skills and humour to great effect.”

Your workshop has given my confidence a boost and perhaps I will be a little more able to hold my own in a very, very, very male dominated company.  What I need is to be able to attend a workshop about every month just to keep topping up my confidence!

Just wanted to say thank you for what a boost you have given me. I don't think my other half quite believed me when I got home and told him!  I’m now thinking of ways that I can use my renewed liking of public speaking.
